XXXTentacion's death follows a year in which the young artist experienced breakout commercial success that was frequently overshadowed by his alleged history of domestic violence. Plus His life had also been the source of controversy. XXX had been awaiting trial on charges of domestic battery, false imprisonment, and aggravated battery of his pregnant girlfriend, to which he pleaded not guilty.

XXX shot to stardom with his 2017 breakout hit “Look at Me!” and his two studio albums, 2017’s 17 and this year’s ?, which topped the charts upon its release in March. And also was featured on XXL's 2017 Freshman list.

In May, Spotify temporarily banned the rapper's songs from its in-house playlists due to a policy change intended to curb the promotion of artists with alleged histories of hateful conduct. After an uproar from key music industry figures including Kendrick Lamar, the streaming service decided to partially change its policy to punish artists for their personal misconduct.

During his life, the Broward County, Florida native  XXXTentacion built an early audience on SoundCloud with a strain of lo-fi rap featuring distorted bass and guitar riffs, abrasive melodic vocal approaches and melodramatic lyrics derived from punk and emo. He was reportedly to be working on a new album titled ‘Skins.’
